Terms of service.

These terms set out the agreement between you and loocy. They cover both students and companies. Please read them before using the platform.

This is a working draft. These terms will be reviewed by a qualified solicitor before the platform launches publicly. If you have questions, email hello@loocy.io.
01

The agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the loocy platform, operated by [Loocy Ltd], a company registered in England and Wales ("loocy", "we", "us", "our").

By creating an account or using loocy in any way, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the platform.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by a prominent notice on the platform. Continued use of the platform after notice of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

02

Eligibility

To use loocy you must be at least 16 years old. If you are registering on behalf of a company, you must have authority to bind that company to these Terms.

Loocy is currently available to users in the United Kingdom only.

03

Student terms

Creating an account. You must provide accurate information when creating your account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You must not share your account with anyone else.

Your submissions. When you submit a response to a problem on loocy, you confirm that the work is your own. You must not submit work written by AI tools, copied from other sources, or produced by another person. Submissions found to be in breach of this may be removed and your account suspended.

Your profile. Information on your loocy profile — including your name, university, career path, submissions, and scores — may be visible to companies who post problems you respond to, and to companies who view your profile. Your contact details are only shared with a company once you accept their invitation.

Opportunities. When a company shortlists you, you are under no obligation to respond or accept. Declining an opportunity has no effect on your profile or future shortlisting. Loocy does not guarantee that any submission will result in a shortlist or an opportunity.

Scoring. Your submissions are scored by AI against criteria defined by the company that posted the problem. Scores are intended as an indication of performance against those criteria — they are not a guarantee of quality or employability. You can view your scores and the reasoning behind them in your portfolio.

Loocy AI. The Loocy AI thinking partner is a tool to help you develop your response. Using it does not breach these Terms. Writing your submission using AI tools and submitting the output as your own work does breach these Terms.

04

Company terms

Creating an account. You must provide accurate company information when registering. You confirm that you are authorised to use the platform on behalf of your organisation and to make hiring decisions or support hiring decisions.

Problems. Problems posted on loocy must be genuine business challenges relevant to the role you are hiring for. You must not post problems designed to extract commercial intelligence, solicit free work without intent to hire, or mislead students about the nature of the role or company.

Rubric session. The criteria you define in the rubric session become the basis for AI scoring of all submissions to your problem. You are responsible for ensuring that the criteria you set are job-relevant and do not create unlawful indirect discrimination. Loocy provides the scoring tool — you are responsible for the criteria you input and the hiring decisions you make from the output.

Shortlists. The shortlist generated by loocy is a decision-support tool. All hiring decisions are yours. Loocy does not guarantee that any candidate on a shortlist will be suitable for your role. You remain responsible for conducting appropriate due diligence before making any hiring decision.

Contacting candidates. You may contact candidates who appear on your shortlist via the loocy platform. You must not use candidate contact details for any purpose other than evaluating them for the role associated with the problem they responded to. You must not add candidates to mailing lists without their consent.

Data protection. When you receive personal data about candidates through loocy (names, universities, submissions, profiles), you become a data controller in respect of that data. You must handle it in accordance with UK GDPR and your own data protection obligations. Loocy is a data processor acting on your behalf for the purpose of providing the shortlist.

Pilot terms. During the pilot phase, loocy is provided at no cost. Pilot terms are agreed directly with loocy and may be updated when commercial pricing is introduced. We will give reasonable notice before any change to commercial terms takes effect.

05

Content ownership

Your content. You retain ownership of any content you create on loocy — including problem submissions, rubric answers, and profile information. By submitting content to the platform, you grant loocy a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and display that content for the purposes of operating the service.

Student submissions. When a student submits a response to a company's problem, that student grants the company a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to read that submission for the purpose of evaluating the student for the relevant role. The student retains ownership of their submission.

Loocy content. The loocy platform, including its design, scoring methodology, and any content created by loocy, is owned by Loocy Ltd. You must not copy, reproduce, or use it without permission.

AI-generated content. Scoring outputs and AI notes generated by the loocy platform are owned by Loocy Ltd. They are provided to you for use within the platform. You must not reproduce or distribute them outside the platform without our permission.

06

AI scoring and Loocy AI

How scoring works. Submissions are scored by a large language model (provided by OpenAI) against criteria defined by the company in the rubric session. Scores are generated algorithmically and are not manually reviewed by loocy staff before being shown to students or companies.

Accuracy. AI scoring is not infallible. Scores reflect the AI's assessment of a submission against the defined criteria — they are not a guarantee of a candidate's ability, potential, or suitability for any role. Companies should read submissions themselves and exercise their own judgment.

Loocy is a decision-support tool, not a decision-making tool. All hiring decisions are made by the hiring manager. Loocy's AI surfaces and ranks candidates — it does not hire them. You remain responsible for all decisions made on the basis of a loocy shortlist.

Loocy AI (thinking partner). The Loocy AI assistant available to students on the problem detail page is provided to help students develop their thinking. It is not intended to write submissions on their behalf. Loocy reserves the right to flag or remove submissions that appear to be AI-generated in their entirety.

Third-party AI. The AI services underlying loocy's scoring and thinking partner are provided by OpenAI. Use of these services is also subject to OpenAI's terms of service.

07

Acceptable use

You must not use loocy to:

  • Submit fraudulent, plagiarised, or AI-generated content as your own work
  • Post problems designed to extract free work without genuine intent to hire
  • Harvest candidate data for purposes unrelated to hiring
  • Misrepresent your identity, your company, or your intentions
  • Interfere with or disrupt the platform or its infrastructure
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer the scoring methodology or AI systems
  • Discriminate unlawfully in the criteria you set or the hiring decisions you make
  • Use the platform in any way that violates applicable law

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that breach these rules without notice.

08

Availability

We aim to keep loocy available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The platform may be unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, or circumstances outside our control. We will try to provide advance notice of planned downtime where possible.

During the pilot phase, loocy is provided without a formal service level agreement. We will use reasonable endeavours to maintain availability and address issues promptly.

09

Liability

Platform provided as-is. During the pilot phase, loocy is provided without warranty. We do not guarantee that the platform will meet your requirements, that AI scoring will be accurate in every case, or that use of the platform will result in any particular hiring outcome.

Our liability to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, loocy's total liability to you for any loss or damage arising from use of the platform is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (which, during the pilot, is zero).

We are not liable for. Indirect or consequential losses; loss of profit, revenue, business or opportunity; decisions made on the basis of AI scoring; the conduct of companies or students on the platform; or any third-party services used to provide the platform.

Nothing in these Terms limits. Our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence; liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by English law.

10

Termination

By you. You can close your account at any time via the settings page. Deletion of your account will remove your personal data in accordance with our privacy policy.

By us. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if we reasonably suspect fraudulent or harmful activity, or if we decide to discontinue the platform. We will try to give reasonable notice unless the situation requires immediate action.

Effect of termination. On termination, your right to use the platform ceases immediately. Clauses that by their nature should survive termination (including content ownership, liability, and governing law) will continue to apply.

11

Governing law

These Terms are governed by English law. Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of the platform will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also have rights under the laws of those jurisdictions that apply in addition to these Terms.
